Your First Visit FAQs
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Yes. Safety records are closely monitored by review boards. One advantage of acupuncture treatment is the absence of serious side effects which may result from the use of prescription drugs.
What can I expect?
Needles are sterile, generally cause no bleeding upon entry or removal, with little or no pain being felt; however, slight bruising may be experienced on occasion. The number of treatments necessary will depend upon your condition, if your symptoms are chronic or acute and your health in general. The needles may vary in size, depending upon your condition and the course of treatment prescribed. In addition to needling your treatment may also include a variety of non-needling techniques such as moxibustion (heat), acupressure, herbal formulas, etc.
Is it covered by Health Insurance?
Some California insurance plans include acupuncture treatment in their policies. Ask your insurer about coverage or reimbursement. Each plan is different; some plans that do not routinely cover acupuncture may pay for treatments if they are recommended by a physician; some will pay for treatments through your Health Savings Account (HSA) if its not a routinely covered service. I am a provider under many PPO and HMO plans. Here is a list of some of the major companies:

**NOTE: I may be listed under my maiden name, Jenna DePino, with your insurance company. I am working on updating this.**
